About

Madison ‘Mad’ Michele (she/her) is a self-taught femme lesbian artist from the East Coast of the United States.

Her work is primarily earth-focused and explores themes of interconnection, climate and conservation, and celebrating the diverse beauty of the natural world around us. Her experience with disability is central to the way she operates as an artist, and she has begun to incorporate those complex themes in her work in recent years. A horror, fantasy, and folklore lover, some of her work is inspired by the genres she loves to watch, read, and write about.

Most of her experience is with graphite and charcoal - she taught herself how to use both mediums at a young age by constantly drawing her surroundings. As she got older, she fell in love with ink, analog/digital photography, and digital art, but she loves to use any artistic medium she can get her hands on. She does her best to reduce waste in her practice, so she often creates on scrap paper and cardboard.

A public librarian, she has two degrees in library & information science and psychology (the latter of which is where she found her love for scientific illustration) and is currently working towards an MLIS.

If she’s not creating, she’s likely reading (from her monumental library book pile that never seems to decrease in size, despite how many books she gets through a week).
